Doctors of Chiropractic are health professionals concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disorders of the musculoskeletal system that often present as pain.

Chiropractors are taught to evaluate the body as a functionally integrated system that may become symptomatic (pain) when there is dysfunction among any of the parts. They can use many different physical modalities to treat these impairments. At Kinetica, our chiropractors have a strong emphasis on manual treatments including very specific manipulation and mobilization of joints, soft tissue therapies and motor control retraining.

Physiotherapists are health care professionals who are trained to evaluate physical function and provide therapies to help restore and maintain physical abilities. They have a detailed understanding of how the body works with specific education and training geared to assess and improve movement and function, and to relieve pain.

Registered Physiotherapists provide a variety of treatments for your musculoskeletal injuries including therapeutic modalities such as Low Level Laser, Ultrasound, Interferential Current (IFC) which are often combined with manual treatments like joint manipulation/mobilization, soft tissue techniques, stretching, exercise prescription, and rehabilitation.

Naturopathy, or naturopathic medicine, is a system of medicine based on the healing power of nature. Naturopathy is a holistic system, meaning that naturopathic doctors (N.D.s) strive to find the cause of disease by understanding the patient as a totality of body, mind, and spirit. Most Naturopathic Doctors use a wide variety of therapies and techniques (such as nutrition, herbal medicine, homeopathy, and acupuncture). There are two areas of focus in naturopathy: one is supporting the body’s own healing abilities, and the other is empowering individuals to make lifestyle changes necessary for the best possible health. While N.D.s treat both short bouts of illness and chronic conditions, their emphasis is on prevention of disease and patient education.

Massage Therapy is the manipulation of the soft tissues of the body. This includes the muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and joints. A Registered Massage Therapist can help alleviate the soft tissue discomfort that is the end result of everyday and work related stresses, muscular overexertion and many chronic pain conditions.

At Kinetica, all of our Massage Therapists are Registered with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario and all continue to take advanced courses in complementary fields such as Pre and Post Natal Massage, Trigger Point Therapy, Myofascial Release, Craniosacral Therapy and Osteopathy.

Active Release Techniques (ART) is a soft tissue system therapy system that treats problems with muscles, ligaments, fascia, tendons and nerves. ART was originally mostly used for treating elite athletes. The idea and systems are now being used to treat both occupational and repetitive strain disorders.

ART uses specific movements with specific tension on the appropriate tissue. It helps to break up scar tissue, remove waste products, and restore normal joint mechanics.

Neuroanatomical acupuncture is the term used to describe the acupuncture approach most commonly integrated by chiropractors, physiotherapists and physicians into practice. It is used to stimulate the release of natural cortisol and endorphins that reduce inflammation and pain, as well as promote tissue regeneration through increased circulation. It can also help by releasing tight and activating inhibited muscles. In fact, Tennis elbow, low back pain and sciatica have all had acupuncture recommended as part of therapy by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Kinetica uses the Theralase® Cold Laser system to help speed up recovery from injury. The Theralase® system works by delivering billions of photons (light) to the tissue surface driving this energy down to the damaged cells that require this energy for healing.

Light energy is able to dramatically increase the healing rate of damaged cells; thus allowing the body to heal itself at an accelerated rate.

The Theralase® laser is currently being used by the Toronto Blue Jays. For more information visit www.theralase.com
